KU Fashion Week was organized by the Fashion Business Organization (FBO), a student group dedicated to fostering interest in the fashion industry, in collaboration with Alpha Couture, a local fashion brand founded by KU students Nana and King Amfo. This incredible event was coordinated by FBO executives, including President Marilyn Jewett, Vice President Evelyn O’Reilly, Events Coordinator Jack Berry, and PR Chair Liv Cadenas. Their collective goal was to provide a platform for students passionate about fashion and business to showcase their creativity, despite KU not offering a dedicated fashion major or program.

Fashion Week officially kicked off during the week of April 10th, featuring a series of influential events leading up to the main show. Highlights included a denim distressing workshop, a guest speaker session, and a designer panel discussion. The main runway show took place on April 12th in Capitol Federal Hall (home to the KU School of Business), where student designers and models were prominently featured. Each segment of the show highlighted the designers’ personal styles and patterns, with student models proudly walking the runway in original student-made designs. In total, the runway show featured 40 student models representing collections from 10 unique student designers. The event drew a crowd of over 200 attendees, including friends, family, and university staff.

Thanks to months of hard work, rehearsals, and dedication from everyone involved, the inaugural KU Fashion Week was a resounding success. The event’s success not only spotlighted the incredible talent within the KU community but also emphasized the importance of creating spaces for artistic and professional expression on campus. The excitement and momentum generated by this year's show have set a strong foundation for KU Fashion Week to become an annual tradition. As it continues to grow, KU Fashion Week will undoubtedly remain a dynamic platform for emerging talent, creativity, and innovation, inspiring the next generation of fashion leaders to dream bigger and push boundaries.
